The Piper Alpha offshore oil and gas platform suffered an explosion in July 1988, still regarded as the worst offshore oil disaster in the history of the UK.

The accident killed one hundred & sixty five personnel out of 220 crew members, plus two crew members from the standby vessel Sandhaven totalling one hundred and sixty seven.

Let us remember our late Brethren who lost their lives on the evening of the 6th July 1988 by supporting the sale of a commemorative token sponsored by Millennium Mark in memory of the disaster on 30th anniversary which shall be July 2018.

Please view the page opposite for details of the token sale from which the proceeds will be donated to the Grand Lodge of Scotland Benevolence Fund.

To order your ‘Piper Alpha’ Offshore Benevolence 31.5mm tokens to commemorate the thirtieth Anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster you can purchase the package of one boxed fully Enamel Token and one Standard Tokens for £18.00 inclusive of post and packaging from Alex Huskie at: info@mm-masonic.co.uk alternatively you can call 01925 299555

All profit from the sale of these tokens shall be donated to the Grand Lodge of Scotland Benevolence Fund. A cheque for £2000 will be presented to Grand Lodge at the 2018 Festival of St. Andrew.

In 1998 there was an element of research carried out in respect of Freemasons who were killed in the Piper Alpha disaster but because of the sensitivity of such a major oil disaster it was decided only those Brethren that were known Freemasons would be listed. These Brethren are listed on Page 8.
I personally knew the late Bro. James Savage of Lodge St. John No.16 and late Bro. William Smith of Lodge Slammanan No.484 with whom I knew personally but also worked with on Piper Alpha in 1980.

Late Bro. Sandy Robertson’s son Derek was also a Member and Past Master of Lodge St. Michael No.38 has been a shareholder of Millennium Mark for eighteen years. Derek now lives in Perth, Western Australia where he is a Member of Lodge St. Andrew No.829 S.C. where his son is a Past Master of the Lodge. As a matter of coincidence I am Proxy Master of Lodge Robbie Burns No.860 S.C. also in Perth.
